When the the economy had grown steadily and unbroken for 5 years under his Tory predecessor Ken Clarke? This also kills Browns statement/boast of the economy only growing since Labour came to power in 97. What has Brown really done as chancellor apart from sell huge amounts of our gold and tax everything to the hilt? Also the cost of living is through the roof taking in to account inflation in 1992 A pint of lager was £1.79, 20 cigarettes was £2.10 and a pint of milk was 38p. So just what has Brown exactly done except take the credit for policies and a strong economy that was created by the tories?

Your thoughts please?

  1. Brown should be recognised only for being "Blair's Puppet".

He was , &  still  is , to a point, under the Illusion of Grandeur.

His failure to have the foresight to see "Credit Crunch" is as despicable

as his ability to Lead this Nation !

  2. He created the illusion of wealth with cheap and easy credit.

That goose is now coming home to roost as people indebted up to their eyeballs are discovering.

  3. I can't disagree with one word you've said! The man's a liability, a wastrel and a control freak! Roll on the election!

  4. You have to bear in mind who was saying that at the time - it was none other than ... Gordon Brown, blowing his own trumpet.  Of course it was Ken Clarke who laid the foundations ... how does taxing us to the hilt achieve that ?

  5. I AGREE.  IN FACT HE WAS ONE OF THE MOST PROFLIGATE CHANCELLORS.

  6. Because it was claimed by his supporters

  7. He sailed forward on the prosperity of the previous regime and basked in the glory of the prosperity they had created. However as the reality of GBs policys started to have effect his reign can now be seen for what it was.............an over taxing under performing mess of badly thought out policys that have benefited knowone  least of all the middle classes who always seem to pick up the tab.

  8. As you say, Brown and Nu Layber inherited a healthy economy and it didn't take much to keep it going. However, the economic cycle catches up everytime and Nu Layber just weren't prepared, and were too arrogant and plain incompetent, to manage it properly to minimise the damage. We will all suffer the fall out but at least it will mean these idiots lose the next General Election.

  9. If you had been living abroad during the time that Brown has been chancellor you would realize just how good the British economy has been in that time compared with other economies in Europe.

There are special considerations such as oil revenues, but most of Europe has been very jealous of the Britsih economy in the last few years. As for the future, I'm not so sure, but the facts speak for themselves on the past.

I can only assume that I get a thumbs down for being the only person who has been living abroad to actually compare things. Economic growth in Britain has been way ahead of all other major European economies - fact.

  10. I notice that you use the past tense, as he is no longer hailed.

Luck, basically. His tenure coincided with worldwide benign economic conditions. His claims to Prudence are looking decidedly hollow right now.

  11. you say that the economy grew under ken clarke and that the strong economy was created by the tories , do you have any links or evidence of this?

Edit: Cheers , despite what people may think I am not disagreeing with you , I just like to see evidence before I make my mind up
