Why was Chad Knaus never permanently suspended after the major infractions he's had before??

What I don't get is how a Hendrick Motorsports crew chief at the top level of the Cup series has been caught least 3 times with major infractions, and only had to sit out a few races with a slap on the wrist. Now 2 crew chiefs at JGR NW series have ONE major infraction and they are suspended indefinitely. Why was Knaus never suspended permantly after the 1st, 2nd, or even third time he was caught cheating?? Favortism??

  1. I think you are comparing apples to oranges. Here is an interesting article that lists the top 10 cheaters (in the writers' opinion). Jimmie didn’t make the top ten. My man is in there but so are a lot of other favorites. I’m not saying I agree with the article, but found it interesting.

  2. The offenses Knaus has been penalized for have been in grey areas. Things like fenders that had their shape tweeked but still fit the template. He was fined 100k and suspended 6 weeks and put on probation.

The current offenses aren't in a grey area, or something that could have been done by accident. This offense is equal to what Mikey did with the fuel in the manifold. It is blatent cheating. It is possible the magnets have been used all season.

Nascar has been very consistant with their penalties.

  3. I don't know as I thought that race suspension a few years back was pretty severe...until it was reported that he still worked as crew chief by phone.  LOL

I love that list GiGi posted.  Very interesting.

  4. I think it has to do w/ the fact that they changed the car AFTER the race to intentionally fool the NASCAR officials and the dyno test. If it would of been something done to the car for the race for an advantage (as long as it's not to severe) then they probably would of got the 6 race ban or something. They pulled the car aside after the race and blatantly tryed to fool NASCAR.

I think they get more p'd off when you try to make them look stupid instead of just cheating to gain an advantage. Cheating to fool them wasn't the smartest thing to do....

  5. Pushing the envelope in a "gray" are is not even close to what Gibbs was caught doing.  Intentional cheating.

  6. I agree, Indefinitely is pretty harsh. I think it all has to do with the COT.

Penalties have increased even in the 'grey areas' since the COT while Knaus cheated the most with the old car.

  7. its all about who you are and who you work for. hendricks.

  8. Cheating is cheating No matter when or how it was done. But nascar does not want to do anything to they top few drivers . This is how nascar has always done things and always will do things. Nascar Loves Hendrick and Thier drivers so they will be allowed to cheat. But be an outsider and Nascar will throw the book at them. These are the facts.
