  1. She wasn't "ideal" in the Catholic's eyes because she was a champion of the Protestant religion and considered a b*****d child with Henry VIII's marriage to her mother Anne Boleyn.

  2. Define an "ideal" Queen. England has only had six ruling queens -  Mary I, her sister Elizabeth 1, Mary II, her sister Anne, Victoria and Elizabeth II. Elizabeth I was a good queen and a good monarch for her day. She was the least bloodthirsty of the Tudors.

  3. She murdered many of her subjects

  4. I would think its because she never married and produced an heir to the english throne. She was the last monarch to rule from the House of Tudor, and when she died so did the Tudor Dynasty. During anicent times, carrying on the royal bloodline was a very important duty. Her father, King Henry VIII broke away from Rome simply because his first wife could not produced a male heir.

Throughout her reign, the nation was unstabled because it was a protestant country and they did not have many allies. Most european nations at the time were all Roman Catholics. In addition, since Elizabeth never married and had children, there was no one to take the throne when shes gone. People did not know who is the next monarch and whether he/she would turn the country back to Catholic or remain protestant. There were fear, unease and unstability throughout her reign.

  5. Well, first you have to look at the word Ideal.  Ideal for those in positions of power or ideal for the country as a whole.  Before Queen Elizabeth took the throne the country was pretty much broke, Mary was killing off more of her people than she was helping them all for the sake of Catholicism.  Elizabeth brought the country out of poverty and maintained it as one of the most powerful countries.  In that regaurd i do beleive she was the ideal queen.  In other respects as far as producing an heir she was not.  Politically speaking though and for the country as a whole I beleive she was one of the most beneficial and ideal queens the country could have had at that time.  Her reign is called the Golden Age for a reason and it seems some people have forgotten that.  She did not rule England with a Protestant hand, and by all accounts she was more for unifying her country to the throne rather than dividing it by religion.  I think America today and several other countries would be wise to look closely at what Queen Elizabeth had to say in that regaurd.  In a time were Catholic and Protestant were at constant war and were half the known world was consumed by the hysteria of the Pope, she was the voice of reason to her people and to her country and for that I beleive she was the ideal queen.

  6. There has never been an ideal monarch yet, but she was one of the best for her country.

  7. She was a tough old boot. She was mean with money, too. She refused to pay the wages of the  the sailors who saved her country from invasion by the Spanish armada.

  8. From all that I have read and seen about her, she was a fairly good queen. She had affairs with at least 2 people both she had in her court. But she never married, altho when younger would have, both men were out to get what they wanted and I think she wasn't able to make good choices for her people because of her love of these men.
