Why was Elizabeth A. Smart(the american girl who was abducted) forced to wear a burka?

I was watching that famous interview with nancy grace, and she showed pictures of Elizabeth around- i think- muslims, and nancy grace stated that elizabeth was "forced" to wear a burka(the islamic face covering for women)? i thought her kidnappers were polygamists? please clear that up for me.

He was a mad polygamist and just had a thing about burkas - I guess.

Just because your clothing covers your body and face does not make it a burka. The guy was more of a nutjob than anything, but yeah, they were primarily polygamists. Plus remember, he KNEW he had a child that the whole country was looking for. Of course, he wanted to cover as many distinguishing features as possible.

The couple who kidnapped her were nuts.  They were not Muslims but he claimed he was a polygamist.  I think he just wanted an excuse to have s*x with a young vulnerable girl so the creep kidnapped her.  He had her covered so no one would recognize her and also it was cheaper than buying her clothes.   I'm glad they finally caught the loser, who's to say what else he was capable of.
