Why was Fred Thompson talking so much about broken bones and skulls and nauseating war stories as a pitch?

Because it is people like McCain who stood with character while truly being tortured, against the communist treachery and for the freedoms in America. Freedoms that allow people such as yourself talk about him and his life is such a flippant manner.

Senator McCain took it for over 5 years, so bring it on I'm sure he can take two months of jabs before he becomes president.

McCain went through a lot. For a great deal of years, his life was no picnic. No matter what you may think of him as a politician, he is a person who has overcome many hardships. You have to give him credit for managing to triumph.

I enjoyed his speech very much, I had not heard the whole story like that,, it was very touching and brought tears to my eyes. Some of the people on here bring tears to my eyes too but for very different reasons.

Fred Thompson did a great job telling Senator John Mc Cains War Story. As the Senator is a true American War Hero and that is something to be Proud of regardless of whom anyone is voting for.

Now I do like Senator Barrack Obama but do you think he could have flown all of those missions? Do you think he could of survived being captured with broken bones only to get more bones continually broken - over a 5 year period with an option to go home and say no thanks I will stay with these American Men?  

Senator Barrack Obama didn't no enough to leave the Trinity Church for 22 +   years. That Church is an anti American one who believes their homeland is Africa and not American. I am sure many good people go their but The Reverend Wright while being a highly educated man and a service man does not like the USA. That is sad.

If Senator Barrack Obama had the Character to stand up against The Reverend Wright and his Anti American Views and to show them just how great our Country is then he would be a Leader, he would then be a man of Character ready to lead. But he didn't.

If Senator Barrack Obama could gain that Character, Experience, working across the isles on tuff issues , bucking his party on tuff issues, cutting taxes, working for what's best for All Americans and not just his Party and last Dropping the old liberal failed policy's of the Past, ... Then I would vote for Senator Barrack Hussien Obama in a minute.

This time I will Vote for Senator John Mc Cain this Nov 2008 Proudly and for the right reasons.

in every good story, you have to paint a picture and connect with the people you are telling the story to. he was painting the picture that mccain was suffering. he was miserable. he was dying and his body was being broken. he did all this not for accolades but because it was the right thing to do. his character speaks volumes. what was obama's telling story of his character......i cant think of one

It's a political standby old as dirt.  Get people emotional - and McCain's story, told right, is very emotional - and it short circuits the intellect and goes straight to make a lasting impression.

This is what the republicans have been very good at thee past several elections - go for the gut and you don't need any content.  The Democrats have chosen to go for the content while trying to infuse some emotion.

I think for the Democrats to win, Joe Biden will have to do what Thompson did - provide the "red meat" for the masses while Obama appeals to the independents who aren't going to fall for these simple tricks.
