  1. No - Dylan S -- you are right.

I assume that H is such a legend and actually a demi-god -- he just can do that sort of this.  And this was years before the famous war.....

    Wiki----

Laomedon of Troy -- Before the Trojan War, Poseidon sent a sea monster to attack Troy. The story is related in several digressions in the Iliad (7.451-453, 20.145-148, 21.442-457) and is also found in Apollodorus' Bibliotheke (2.5.9). Laomedon planned on sacrificing his daughter Hesione to Poseidon in the hope of appeasing him. Heracles happened to arrive (along with Telamon and Oicles) and agreed to kill the monster if Laomedon would give him the horses received from Zeus as compensation for Zeus' kidnapping Ganymede. Laomedon agreed. Heracles killed the monster, but Laomedon went back on his word.

Accordingly, in a later expedition, Heracles and his followers attacked Troy and sacked it.

Then they slew all Laomedon's sons present there save Podarces, who was renamed Priam, who saved his own life by giving Heracles a golden veil Hesione had made. Telamon took Hesione as a war prize; they were married and had a son, Teucer.

  2. It wasn't Achilles who took Troy, either - he was already dead at that point. It was Odysseus who came up with the idea for the Trojan Horse.

PS to bigant00 - I wasn't trying to "thump" you - I just had to type my thought in a hurry, I had spaghetti boiling over and had to make it quick! :)

  3. Sorry Dylan but I think you have your stories crossed. That or your  heroes mixed up. Heracles/Hercules was'nt even involved in the Trojan war. You're thinking of ACHILLES, one of the most gifted warriors in literature.  Even with him it wasn't in a short amount of time. According to Homer, it took years of warfare, plus the largest fleet of ships of war ever set to sail in history to even try to accomplish this feat, as the walls of Troy were very forminable indeed.

The Greeks & their allies just kept at it, until they finally thought of a way not through it, but around it, that being the famous Trojan Horse. Try to read up on your mythology to refresh your knowledge of these events. Peace.

P.S. To Lord Bearclaw, yes your'e quite right about that, but I never did say the Trojan Horse was Achilles idea, plus I know ofcourse he was dead at the time but his contributions did help in fact to take the city. Should have mentioned Odysseus though.
