  1. 'Why' was because there were no constitutional limits of the Fuhrer's powers.  This is not unusual in times of war, as the US President then would also have supreme power, as commander-in-chief.

Was this a problem?  Unfortunately, for the Germans, yes.  Many of Hitler's generals complained that they could have won, if they had been in charge, instead of following Hitler's 'dumb' orders.

For example, why invade Russia in NOVEMBER?  Why attack Stalingrad - chosen for it's symbolic, not strategic importance?  Many also criticized Hitler's blind aid for Mussolini - Why help M. in Greece and Libya, when there were bigger and more important opponents around?

  2. The same way all leaders do! By strategic brainwashing. The government and media work hand-in-hand toward creating certain 'politically correct' ideas...and more times than not, the majority of people come to accept and believe in these ideas...

Plus, if you're in the service and don't do what you're told...there are strict penalties.

  3. He manipulated his way to absolute power by playing to the German's fear and anger.  He brainwashed all of the citizens who would follow him.
