I am 19, this is what is on my credit:

I have a Bank of America secured card with a limit of $300 that I received in December.

I applied for American Express Blue in March and was denied due to not having a revolving credit open for at least 6 months.

I applied for American Express Blue again in June, and was approved for a credit limit of $1000.

I applied for Fidelity Visa Signature Worldpoints today and was denied.

Since I was denied, I applied for the Chase Freedom Card today as well.

I do not carry a balance and pay in full everyday online.

My credit score is a 725.

I am a full time stuent at UT Austin.

I work at a bank as a part time teller.

I really love my american express but my apartment that I am moving to when school starts does not accept amex and i want to be rewarded cash back so that is why i applied for the fidelity visa. I do not know why i was denied. Also, how bad and how long will these two inquires today affect my score. I only buy with cash i have.

  1. did you get approved for the chase freedom card?

  2. You may wish to read Credit Management Masters Course. It is a short pdf report that is free to download from the site below.

You'll find quite a bit of information about managing your credit score, the determining factor of why you were denied.

  3. Each card you where denied on will send you a letter telling you why. They will likely say length of time with established accounts or something like that. Give it another couple months and then try again.

Continue paying cash for everything. You're so much farther ahead if you don't leave college in debt.

    Good luck

  4. You are applying for new cards too quickly.  You just got the American Express in June. Wait at least 4 months before applying for another card --6 would be even better.

You need to use both cards each month and pay them off in full. This will give you a good payment history.

  5. Your history is too short and you're applying for too much credit.  They should send you a letter and it should contain the details or probably a list of vague information.
