I recently tried to purchase a new pistol in Nevada, I paid the $25 background check and it came up DENIED! In the winter of 1992 I was on a skiing trip with my friend in Utah, I was the driver he was the passenger. I got pulled over for having tinted windows and my car was searched. Well it seems the person(my friend) that was riding with me had a GRAM of marijuana in his gear bag. Even after my friend telling the deputy over and over that I had no knowledge of this, they took us both to the courthouse. The judge saw us immediately and stated we both needed to pay a $600 fine, no jail time. I have never been to jail nor had a speeding ticket in my 40 years on this earth, let alone being involved with the law! Well 16 years later this came up when I applied for a handgun purchase, stating it was a gross misdemeanor. For starters I am probably the most upstanding American citizen that I know, I thought only felons could not purchase a handgun? Not to mention I have possessed a nevada gaming card for 19 years! Please does anyone have some advice?
Thanks.
