I am currently running my own department and am the only person in that department with the titlke of coordinator. I was told this week that the departments responsibilities would be expanding to about 6-7 workers from within the comaont one of which would be a supervisor of the group. However, i was told that I would not be allowed to apply for that position or be promoted to it, can anyone shed some light on this situation and tell me why they think that would be the case? I am a good employee and received a excellent job evaluation just 6 weeks ago.

Thank You

  1. There may be an educational requirement that you don't meet.

Why don't you just ask whoever it was who told you that you can't apply what their reason was for saying that?

  2. You are doing a good job where you are, and replacing you there would be difficult.

But don't be afraid to ask them about it, show some guts.

  3. They may feel that you aren't ready for that supervisory role. If they think you are a good employee then they might be taking the time to mentor you and prepare you for a management role with the increased responsibility. Hang in there and show them what an asset you are.
