  1. She led the French against the Heathen english...in the Name of the Roman Catholic Church and civilization...She died being burned at the stake...

  2. Wikipedia long?  Actually it only touches the surface of her life.  If you really want to know about Joan of Arc try http://www.maidofheaven.com

  3. She was so popular because she believed God spoke to her, which was quite a big claim back then and would be even now, and she led the French army to attack the British. In the end, she was burnt on the stake for what she said.

I guess you would be pretty popular too if you lead an army and claimed God talked to you.

  4. She led the French army against the English, who had wrought terrible devestation in France during the Hundred Years War.  She won a famous victory at the Seige of Orleans, and crowned the Dauphin King of France.

She was captured by the Burgundians (allies of the English) in battle, sold to the English, tried and condemend for heresy and witchcraft, and burnt at the stake in Rouen (then an english possession).

Twenty years after he death, the French held a retrial and the verdict against her was reversed.  She was cannonised as a saint in the 20th century, and became the Patron Saint of France.
