Why was John Walker Lindh stripped naked, bound with masking tape, photographed, and thus displayed publicly?

I understand that Lindh never took arms against the United States. Therefore, what did he do to deserve such treatment? What sort of danger was he to the United States after he was captured and detained? Why was he stripped naked and photographed like that?

  1. Because no matter what nationality, there are people who will do stupid and brutal things like that for some unknown reason, and think it makes them look heroic.
