  1. In a way the U.S. government would like to ban all gambling sites but they are powerless to do so.  Quite a few sites though stopped allowing U.S. players but for their own reasons not because they had to.  There's no way to stop anyone from playing at a site though provided the site allows them and there's way too much money to be made from U.S. players for everyone to get out of it.

  2. Party Poker was not banned, but they chose to not allow US players to play on their site.  The law passed making it very difficult for US players to fund poker sites.  PartyPoker was one of the first to disallow US citizens to play on it's site.  Others took a gamble and it payed off for them.

  3. Party Poker left on their own free will.  Other sites like Full Tilt and PokerStars are owned privately.  Party Poker, I believe is a publicly traded company on a foreign stock market.  Thus the flee from the US poker market.

And no other sites have been banned.  There are only other sites that have chosen not to transact with US customers.  There is a law that was passed in fall 2006 that limited the way banks can transact with poker sites.  However, the law has no means of enforcement, and remains bogus in its current state.  You can read more information about it at http://poker-lobby.com/legal.htm and you'll also find other great info on poker sites.  Hope this helps.
