  1. he was solid in defence

  2. The story goes that as a kid, living on a farm miles from other kids, he passed a lot of time using a cricket stump to knock a ball against a wall - something that needs incredibly good timing. He spent so long doing it that his hand / eye co-ordination was superb & that later made him the greatest batsman ever.

  3. Bradman had great eyesight, fast reactions and excellent hand-eye coordination, much of it developed as a youngster when he would practie hitting a ball against a wooden fence using a single cricket stump. He also had a cool head, steely determination and absolute focus.

  4. He used to have a curved brick stand which had a water cooler on top of it behind his home in a paved and covered area. He used to throw a golf ball at the curved brick stand and it would rebound back at random angles and at high speeds. He used to hit the golf ball with a single stump. He apparently used to do this vigorously in his youth. This helped him get accuracy and reflexes.

  5. Bradman's grip was different from others, which enabled him to play his shots without compromising his defense.

In his biography of Bradman, "Johnny" Moyes, described his grip

With most players, the [bat] handle runs across the palm of the [right, or bottom] hand and rests against the ball of the thumb. With Bradman, the hand is turned over so far that the handle presses against the ball of the thumb. As the grip tightens, the pressure becomes more intense. The left [top] hand is turned so that the wrist is behind the handle... The combined result is that the bat slopes at an angle of about forty-five degrees from the ground, and so keeps the ball down, ensuring that in both the hook and the cut the blade is automatically turned over the ball.
