Why was Topher Grace in the Ocean's movies?

Question

He was in the first two, but was not in the third because of scheduling conflicts or something with Spidey 3. Why was he in them to begin with? It just seems really random

I don't know who you're confusing him with, but Topher Grace wasn't in any of the Ocean's movies.

You'll have to forgive my mistake. I hardly consider an uncredited cameo (in Ocean's 11 and Ocean's 12) as being in the movie. I can't even remember when or where he turned up in either movie.

I think it's supposed to be an in-joke that also reminds us that this is supposed to be happening in 'real life'.

They also have Julia Roberts' character "Tess" pose as the 'real' Julia Roberts and run into the real Bruce Willis.  It's just a convenient joke that allows the actors to make fun of themselves.

That's how I see it at least.

If you've seen the movies, he's (in Ocean's 12) the guy with the beard who trashes Pitt's hotel over some girl, right before Pitt's car explodes.  As a matter of fact, here:
