Going home after watching cup final in Cleethorpes, got stoped by barriers going down at Pasture Street crossing in Grimsby. Expected to see usual diesel multiple unit, instead a Class 57 appeared with a train of Mk 1 maroon coaches and two Pullman cars, with a Class 47 at the rear. Why, never seen a train like that at that location. The coaches were empty.

  1. to pull the train.

  2. It was a charter (private) train. The 47 and the coaches are all privately owned, but the TOCs won't allow them 'let loose' on the main lines on their own so the 57 was added as a safeguard in case of breakdown - and consequent shut-down of the line ! ! !

  3. I haven't been down Pasture Street since 1976.  Used to get the 3F from Victoria Street through to Freeman Street and Riby Square.
