Why was a Texas Hospital "chided" for reporting an illegal applicant?

Maria Martinez' attempt to land a cafeteria job at a suburban Dallas hospital got her arrested, jailed and deported

It may be hospital policy, but employers aren't required to report a worker or applicant suspected of being in the U.S. illegally, say immigration attorneys and enforcement officials.

Martinez, a single mother of a 3-year-old son and a teenage daughter, acknowledged buying the social security card for $110 at a Wal-Mart., according to police records. She also had a second social security card and two counterfeit cards stating she was a legal permanent resident.

She had planned to fight the state charge, but after being held in jail for nearly three weeks, she agreed to be deported to Mexico. Her son joined her there.

When people are "chided" for obeying the law and praised for ignoring it, it's a sign that we have a problem.

I am tired of Obama and others of his ilk talking about the "47 million without health insurance."  That number includes more than 12 million illegal immigrants.

If you took a look at all the uninsureds in this country, you would find that a disproportionate number of illegals have Medicaid cards.  They know how to game the system.

Where do we get the 47 million number from?  We ASK people, "Do you have medical insurance for yourself and your family?"  

Are they going to say, "Sure!  I'm an illegal alien and I got my Medicaid card yesterday"?

I was going to pose the same question. Really it DOES boil down to identity theft charges. using a fake SS number. If she had just applied and said she was illegal and wanted a job I doubt they would have reported her. They wouldn't have hired her either but THEY CAN GET IN TROUBLE FOR HIRING ILLEGALS so they shouldn't have anyway. I like how shw says she bought the fake document at WallWorld. I haven't seen that dept. in there yet, has anyone else?

Because Texas is being over run by illegals. They suck the life out of the state and are making it look like mexico with the filth on the roadside in southern Texas. very one should live in a dominant area for a while and i know there would be no more illegals.

This criticism is the height of political correctness.  Can the politician who has the guts to say we've reached new lows here please stand up.  

We really need to change citizenship laws to prevent people from being able to vote when they still have their first loyalty towards Mexico, otherwise the politicians just pander to them.

It's stupid.  If they are here illegally they need to get the h**l out.  We have enough problems.  Why should we baby and sooth people who are leaching off of us?

I love that people want to come here, but let them do it legally.
