Why was animal control driving around our neighborhood?

Today when I got back from school I noticed an animal control truck driving around our neighborhood for a while. We do live a little in the mountains so there are wild animals in there. But I'm worried, can they take your dogs if they bark excessively (they only bark when they are outside playing with eachother and get hyper or when strangers come, they dont bark at night)? My dogs are very friendly but they do bark a lot when they get excited... I love them so much, I dont want to lose them! I'm just really worried, if you think they were just driving around for other reasons please specify. Thank you. (:

  1. animal control can be coming for a report of dogs running loose, but also:deer running in backyard, bear, cougar sightings, or who knows, what else you have in your area!

  2. It varies by state, but yes, they probably could take your dogs for barking excessively, but that would be a VERY last resort. I can't imagine that you wouldn't get warnings or notices of complaints first. They are ALWAYS going to want to try to work with you on fixing the problem first, unless extreme neglect or active cruelty is suspected. It's MUCH more likely they were following up on reports of wild animals or a stray dog pack. But, just in general, it's a good idea to do everything you can to limit the dogs' barking when they're outside - I figure having dogs is MY choice, and my neighbors shouldn't have to suffer for my choice.

Through volunteer work at my local shelter, I got to know some of the abuse investigators. In my state they have the legal power to seize animals, but even puppy mills usually get warnings, education, and supervision before animals are taken. Creating a good home is a higher priority than creating another homeless animal.

    Good luck.

  3. don't worry i don't think they can.

but they do rounds in towns to check up sometimes
