  1. Great question.  It's always an influence my friend.  Absolutely no different today... it's a perfect mirror image of the situations you mentioned.  What you do if you want to trick people into going to war is: you appeal to their ego and vanity, and convince them of the inhumanity of the "enemy".

Very simple, quite effective as long as enough people are susceptible to this kind of propaganda.  A false flag terrorist attack like the Gulf of Tonkin is helpful, and the most ugly, vicious trick imaginable for a government to use.  Make no mistake, they do it, the US did it, and will likely try it again.  Here is another piece of history:

You need to protect the citizenry though, from graphic images of the real horror of war: 6 year old boys with both arms blown off.  Gang rape of unarmed civilians by soldiers.  That kind of thing.  You don't want them to know about that.  Nothing I'm saying is the least bit controversial in terms of its reality or authenticity.  The only radical part is how radically different the truth is from the one major media sells you.

But that won't be you, because you asked the question and you are curious.  You're on your way to awareness.  Thank you!!  Rejoice, people all around the world are waking up.

  2. I read it in your history book. You can too.

  3. "Extreme" nationallism has been a survival mechanism for nations throughout history

When nations lost their resolve they were swallowed up by stronger foes.

Could it happen to America?  You bet!

  4. Christoph's dead on!
