Why was marie antoinette be-headed??

&& was the movie 'marie antoinette' true? or just completley fake, of what they thought MIGHT have happened??

Marie antoinette was not popular , She was extravagant while the French sufffered in peasant conditions . She was part and part of the overall discontent and hatred of the French imperial system.

the movie was generally pretty true...there are plenty of first-hand accounts to the court of versailles and marie antoinette. HOWEVER, you must remember that amid all the glamour and frills and pastries, there was a whole country of starving poor peasants who were subjected to increasingly heavier taxes while the noble class and the clergy lived in tax-free luxury.

i thoroughly enjoyed the set and the costumes (and most of the actors) in that movie but having studied the french revolution in great detail, it bothered me that the director was trying to win my sympathies for marie antoinette without communicating the story from the other side, you know? if you didn't know anything about the french revolution, you'd be inclined to feel bad for her when versailles is attacked.

enjoy the movie for what it is--a movie. an interpretation. but don't regard it as the entire truth.

Marie Antoinette was not a popular queen.  She had no connection with the common people mostly because she was not French and was not raised with the notion that she had to be popular with them.  

Yes, she was beheaded.  So were hundreds of other aristocrats and royals.  The lot of the people didn't really improve, but the blood distracted them from that.

The root of Marie Antoinette's unpopularity with the French people was that she was Austrian.  Extravagant luxury were common to all European royalty.

Louis XVI did not help matters by wanting a war with Austria, so that the Austrians could defeat Louis's enemy within France and save his crown.
