Why was my cheese confiscated from my handluggage at a french airport yesterday?

Is it because it is something to do with the 100ml liquids rule in handluggage - or because it is cheese? ie possibly unpasteurised? I thought there were few restrictions on EU imports?

  1. I rather agree with the first two people to reply: there's no good reason obviously apparent. I think you should complain to the relevant authority. If it was custom officials who confiscated it, complain to French customs authorities. If it was airline employees, complain to the airline.

  2. For the most part, only hermeticaly(sp) sealed, unopend food products are permitted. It may have something to do with the packaging.

  3. it was confiscated because it wasn't french cheese.

  4. For the same reason that your coals would be confiscated if you were to land at Newcastle Airport.

  5. LOL - maybe the luggage guy was hungry

  6. Because its an animal product

  7. The French love thier cheese, and will go through great lengths to get more.

  8. dairy, eggs and meat products a no no

  9. Unpasteurised cheese is against EU laws and will get confiscated.
