  1. I must admit, I do like their music. They were very unique, and something about them set them apart from the other bands. Kurt Cobain had a really unique voice too. And people really felt like they could connect with him for some reason.

Of course, I don't think Nirvana would be as popular if Kurt Cobain hadn't committed suicide. That just seemed to make them even more popular, though they were really big even before that.

I definitely don't consider them the greatest rock band of the 90's.... they're one of them, but I definitely agree with whoever mentioned Alice In Chains. I also really love Collective Soul. :D

  2. Overall, the 90's were one of the most deplorable decades for music. If Nirvana were to be declared the best band of the 90's, it wouldn't be saying much. Cobain's method of exit from the planet is probably the only reason Nirvana is mentioned as much as it is.

  3. who the **** are you to question nirvanas greatness? nirvana was the best band of the 90s. thats a known fact. theres no disputing it. so ROCK ON

  4. first of all circa alice in chains is grunge and second of all because nirvana was really good.

  5. grunge was kinda g*y

the only good stuff to come out of the 90's was biggie and the late 90's scremao

saetia , rites of spring , i hate myself , pg.99 , circle takes the squeare ... ect

  6. i never heard of them

  7. I wouldnt call them the greatest rock band of the 90's but they were pretty great maybe in the top ten or fifteen but that was because Cobain was the twelfth greatest guitarist ever born, Smells Like Teen Spirit, and Cobain's suicide, also some trivia for those who dont know this: Smells Like Teen Spirit was written by Cobain to prove that MTV could make a song about nothing popular just by airing it on TV

  8. No. They were good, but not the greatest. There is no greatest.

  9. If Kurt Cobain didn't french kiss a shotgun, Nirvana would have been a footnote.

    They were very rote.

    Soft chorus

    LOUD refrain

    Soft chorus

    Kurt only had one formula.

  10. People have different taste no one eats the same food or chooses the same colors saying that nirvana is the best band is simply a matter of opinion. you can say they were the most successful band but saying they were a the greatest is just a matter of opinion

  11. because at the time rock wasn't a popular style

the world was just easing off of the hair metal that occupied the 80's and easing onto michael jackson and like artists

nirvana brought upon a new musical style called grunge and the world took to it quickly

  12. Although that is debatable, let me explore a few options:

Kurt Cobain's sudden death at the height of the bands popularity garnered a horde of media attention.  I have a feeling if he was still alive today, the band probably would have waned in popularity a la Pearl Jam, still putting out records and keeping a core fan base, but not changing the music scene.

Nirvana represented the anti-music industry musicians in the early 90s.  This was a big change from the 80s, both philosophically and in style.  They made their mark on American culture, and are remembered for that.

Perhaps they are given a bit too much credit, but history has a strange way of writing itself.

  13. no one ever said they were

  14. They WERE very very good. But I'm sure I would say that...

But if I listed all the 90s 1 hit wonders that I loved all the music of, no one would know what I was talking about.

  15. I don't know if it was the best, but they're my favorite band from the 90s (and from all time too, maybe) so my opinion isn't very objective. But what is sure is that they were the most popular band from that time.

  16. h**l no! Alice in Chains!!!

  17. good question

  18. that's your opinion. to me there are so many i can't give you a number.

  19. they were because they had great creative lyrics and they could do alot just for a 3 piece band.(until pat joined)

  20. One of the most popular, but I wouldn't say greatest. As for that whole quiet loud formula, the Pixies totally did it better.

  21. No not IMO...probably the most well known and the most influential but not the greatist.  I would easily put Alice In Chains AND Soundgarden in front of them...also TOOL

  22. People are just saying they weren't because they want to act like they know more bands and seem like geniuses in music. Wether you like it or not, they msot probably were.

  23. they were original compared to the stuff being broadcasted on mtv at the time

distortion, not caring about appearence, writing his own songs, connection with his audience that is rare...

  24. Nirvana was my favorite band in the 90's. Every album had such a different sound. I think besides personal taste, people who don't understand probably haven't heard all of their albums. Listen to some songs off of Bleach, they are a lot different than the songs most people know from the radio off of Nevermind, In Utero & Unplugged.

  25. They where??

Alice in chains is a far better band than Nirvana ever was

  26. bcoz of SMELLS LIKE TEEN SPIRIT!!!

  27. no they were not, they were the worst band of any era. kurt was a winy little b**ch.

  28. Not so sure they were, and I'm thinking that bands like "Rage Against the Machine", "Alice in Chains" and "Tool" might have something to say about that...just to name a select few.

  29. They weren't, it's a toss up between U2 and Pearl Jam.

  30. they weren't
