Why was the Apocrypha removed?

Question

Just wanted to know why the apocrypha was removed from the KJV bible, but is in the 1611 KJV. What was it about these books that made the pilgrims/prodestants reject these books?

The Books that were deemed Apocryphal were removed for several reason. The criteria was multi-facetted.

Authenticity was questioned in many books

1 Authorship could not be verified as with the rest of the Bible.

2 Time of proclaimed writing did not line up with other known facts in history.

3 Some books included KNOWN facts and topics of mythology, bring into question the spirit of inspiration (not the Holy Spirit).

4 Promotion of teachings not adhered to by the rest of the Bible, or blantantly opposite Biblical teachings.

Etc., etc.

The rest of the Bible's Books have many things in common with other Books in the text. The result is that the Books of the Bible support one another, and the identity of each book's writer is beyond reproach.

Earliest translators used the Septuagint in their translations, but this contained Scriptures later rejected (for various reasons) from the Hebrew scriptures.

Thus, later translators, seeking to make the OT like the Hebrew Scriptures used the more correcte Pentateuch.  This was done, as you noticed, long after the Canon was first set down.

These Apocrypha books were rejected from the canon of the church by early church fathers as there was no internal evidence that there was anything about them that led anyone to believe that they were inspired by God. Try reading any of them in comparison with Scripture and you will see what I mean.

What bothers me is why these books were included in the 1611 translation. That is a much bigger mystery.

Those books didn't support the doctrine they were promoting.  There was some official excuse, but I'm sure that's the real reason.

1 Verily, thus saith the Lord unto you concerning the Apocrypha--There are many things contained therein that are true, and it is mostly translated correctly;

D&C 91:2

2 There are many things contained therein that are not true, which are interpolations by the hands of men.

D&C 91:3

3 Verily, I say unto you, that it is not needful that the Apocrypha should be translated.

D&C 91:4

4 Therefore, whoso readeth it, let him understand, for the Spirit manifesteth truth;

D&C 91:5

5 And whoso is enlightened by the Spirit shall obtain benefit therefrom;

D&C 91:6

6 And whoso receiveth not by the Spirit, cannot be benefited. Therefore it is not needful that it should be translated. Amen.
