put it simply and if you can why was the Australian Labour Party formed as well.

  1. The seeds of the Liberal Party were sown after the UAP (United Australia Party) got caned in the 1943 election. A group of disaffected conservatives met and over a period of about six months, the UAP merged with smaller parties to form the Liberal party in early 1945.

    They formed to consolidate power against the ruling Australian Labor Party.
