  1. The evidence never really pointed to a certain person to be able to bring them to justice, where they would have been able to prosecute him.

Cold cases such as this are always going to be of an interest to both the detectives/police who investigated it, so much so that I don't think that they will ever truly let it go.

There has always been speculation that the guy who was the  Zodiac Killer died.  Also there has been speculation that he may have gone to prison, that is always possible that he could have gone to prison.  But again both of these ideas are only speculation.

    They mystery goes on.

  2. Interesting question. You should read the book Zodiac for a pretty good overview about the killer. I happen to have spoken with a few of the Detectives that were on that case in the Solano County area. Believe me, in their minds it is not over. From time to time they get together to review the case and discuss possibilities. The most common belief among experts is that he died, or went to prison for another crime and possibly died there. I do believe that the case was reviewed again in the past few years.

  3. Because it wasn't in the stars.....................

  4. Well, sport, lots of cases go unsolved unfortunately.  Nothing unique about the Zodiac killer.

  5. Because he's one with the stars and, therefor, mystical and elusive!

  6. Because he  or she was much smarter than the cops.

  7. The murders were at random by a killer that was considered a drifter. Evidence were not processed the same way that they are today, which added more difficulties to solving the case. There were a few suspects but no one they can pin it on. Most investigators believe he was caught committing a different crime and went to jail, which put an end to his terror. Serial killers are relentless and only a few have ever had the same impact on society the way the Zodiac did.

  8. Crimes are easily solved when there is a connection to the victim and the murderer. The Zodiac Killer killed at random and in wide areas. (There are a lot of random killings that go on today that are hard to find the murderer)

Because it was the 60s and the lack of DNA evidence it was hard to identify him. He also struck when there were no witnesses and a dead body can't give a description of the killer. And the ones that survived never saw the face, because he hid his face.

Those are the basic reasons, he is also believed to have died,

And because the prime suspect died (never charged) it will be impossible to know if he was the killer.

  9. They didn't have enough evidence to convict the suspects they had and they weren't even really sure those suspects were viable.

  10. The most common theory is that the killer passed away. Serial killers usually only stop because they are either caught or die.

  11. he must have been Bush - that evil genious :)
