Why was the company named virgin?

I was just wondering why when Richard Branson set up his businesses, he named them virgin?

Because it was the first company of many to come

His first try at a owning a business; fresh, new, untouched.

I think its because they used new (or virgin) vinyl when they made their 33" records back in the 60's and stuff. If you used vinyl that was recycled the sound quality was not as good.
