Why was the film the General made in black and white??

  1. Colour can detract from the point of a film.... assuming it was made when colour was available!   "Young Frankenstein" was deliberately filmed in B & W to 'copy' (spoof) the original Frankenstein.....   "Schindler's List" was filmed in B & W - nothing colourful about that story.
