  1. I saw a red moon at night 8 years ago. Explain that ppl.

  2. That is generally caused by pollution or blowing dust/sand/dirt etc.  I saw the same thing last night out in the desert because it was really windy.

  3. You sure that was the moon? could have been.Mars venus or somthing else but still it sometimes happens that the sun makes extra light on the moon or some other thing and makes diffrent colors.. could be the explaniation

  4. Thats called a harvest moon, it looks like that because of the angle you are observing it at, means you are looking through a "thick" arc of the earths atmosphere, the same reason the sun goes red when it sets.

  5. The atmosphere scatters light.  Blue light gets scattered much more than red, which is why the sky looks blue during the day - the blue light is scattered around the sky, and the yellow sunlight gets to your eyes.  At the horizon, you're looking through a lot more atmosphere than overhead, so even more light gets scattered - blue, green, even the yellow so the light that gets to your eyes is redder.  Overhead, it won't look as red.
