Why didnt they show the matches when they happened and instead chose to air them 2, 3, 4, or 5 hours after it really happened.

networks in other countries showed matches live at whatever time they happened so why didnt NBC

  1. Because NBC wants good ratings, so they held it off until Primetime

And their stupidness has paid off, the 2008 Beijing Olympics ended up being the most watched Event in US History so ugh.

  2. NBC packaged the Olympics as reality television; the delays enabled them to mix and match events in a compelling way.

Lord help them with the London games; the time difference is going to really suck for NBC since nighttime in London = early afternoon in the States.

  3. It did. They have it same time as it live at Chins, however, they have most of the games at night since it's like 10 hours ahead of our time at China.

  4. Cause of the time diffent there was 12 for east 11 for central 10 For Mountain 9 for Pafic I forget for the other us time zone but that why they chose to show some of the matches that way

  5. They were events where Americans weren't going to medal, and many people in the U.S. don't care about events they don't win at.

    Just my two cents ..

  6. they timed it according to the number of viewers, who will watch the opening ceremonies at 6 - 8 am at the east coast, specials events should be at prime time where the number of viewers are higher and the rates of advertisements are higher too.
