Fire ants weren't brought to Australia deliberately. It's believed they were brought here on a ship, or ships, as they were first discovered at the wharf in Brisbane. They were discovered around the year 2000, but it's believed they might have been here a year or two before they were found.

The D.P.I. are doing a good job of finding and destroying them. I must admit I didn't think there was much chance of the ants being eradicated at first, but it looks as though they might succeed. I hope so, anyway.
