Why was the segway and winglet even built?

Question

Im just wondering, why were these things made? They don't go that fast, and your still standing up so your still doing work. Whats the point? Walking is healthier for you of course and people who can't walk because of being parallelized or old will use a wheel chair instead. So can any one tell me the purpose of a segway or winglet? Are they just for fun? because they look really boring and kinda dorky.

actually i was wondering the same thing. it is less of a connivence than the segway cuz it only goes 3.7 miles.... and it doesnt even have handles. im guessing its probably more affordble than the segway. because it is 5000 dollars. my uncle has one. but he lives in texas so he got it cheaper. but anyways. it is dorky and walking is healtheir. but im guessing its made for older folks who have trouble walking.
