  1. Very simply put:

At Yalta, U.S. Secretary of State, Steitinius, proposed a "Declaration of Liberated Europe". This declaration stated that the U.S., U.K., and U.S.S.R. would:

    Establish the conditions of peace

Set up and carry out measures for the relief of people affected by the war

Help facilitate free elections in the affected countries

This declaration was accepted by all the powers, and it was later used by the United States and Britain to claim that the Soviet Union has broken its agreement when it started invading and taking over Eastern Europe.

The future of Poland was also discussed. Stalin wanted control of Poland, but the U.S. and U.K. were very much against it. Britain pointed out that they had entered the war in defense of Poland and could not accept anything but free elections in an independent Poland. Stalin reluctantly agreed to hold free elections within a month. Stalin then went about setting up a puppet government in Poland. Relations between the U.S. and the U.S.S.R. began to deteriorate.

  2. The Yalta conference was where post-war map of Europe and elsewhere was discussed. The fate of Poland was a big issue. France and Great Britain had declared war on n**i Germany when it invaded Poland.in 1939. A free and independent Poland had been one of their war goals. The Soviet Union had also attacked Poland at the same time, and the two had peacefully divided the nation between them.

The Soviet Union would remain at peace with n**i Germany until the n***s invaded the Soviet Union with a surprise attack in the spring of 1941.

The Soviet Union wanted to install a communist government in Poland after driving out the n***s. Great Britain wanted to return the previous government from exile. I consider this disagreement the beginning of the Cold War.
