Why was there no Taiwanese flag displayed in Women's World Golf Championship leaderboard on tele?

Taiwan was placed 3rd in Women's Golf Championship.

Well done.

But noticably, there was no flag next to their name. Everyone else had a flag, China too.

If the organisers do not recognise Taiwan as a country, why invite them.

Since they did invite them, they recognise Taiwan as an independent country - if so why leave out the flag on leaderboard?

Doesn't make sense.

  1. I was thinking the same thing.  Great question!!! I think its because Taiwan is not its own country, its part of China.  I think Taiwan's real name is Chinese Taipei.

  2. They recognize it probably as a sub-group of China, not an independent country.

If you put up the flag, then Chinese officials complain and you have a lot of political turmoil instead of golf. So they just do that instead.
