  1. socialist government... aka dictatorship...

the people dont like it except those in power..

and if those that didnt like it all left.. who would they rule

  2. It is not an absolute truth that Soviet and Cuban citizens were not allowed to leave their  respective countries.

  3. Socialism. Use this as a lesson to always oppose socialism in all forms. Contrary toi what liberals say, socialism has never worked anywhere it was tried, and has always resulted in misery for the poor people who have been subjected to it.

  4. they are but the goverment has many restrictions because they beleve "in the good of the nation" and they have invested so much money in you (healthcare schooling etc.) they want to get there worth out of you. and the Soviet union was where russia is now. so it has nothing to do with cuba.

they did have similar forms of goverment and they used to be major trading partners but they are not the same place.

  5. Um, it wasn`t (in Russia) and isn`t (in Cuba) socialism; it was totalitarianism, a dictatorship. Under a dictatorship, all the power is concentrated in a single, or at most, a few individuals. Since the people have zero say, they want to leave, and if allowed to, they would leave. The dictator cannot build an international power base without a robust population, so no one is allowed to leave. Dictators can come in any political persuasion; both the USSR and Cuba were-are far left communist dictatorships. Franco, in Spain, had a far right dictatorship. Some Middle Eastern countries have religious dictatorships, and the far east has had both leftist and rightist dictatorships. Africa had, and still does have, a variety of military dictatorships. In all of these places, the people must stay put, or risk their lives escaping.

There are a few purely socialist countries in the world, which are NOT dictatorships, and that do work. A prime example would be the Scandinavian countries, Norway and Sweden. They have higher rates of emigration, people moving in, than immigration, people leaving. Most European countries are at least partly socialist.

So, there you go. Totalitarianism is the problem.
