Why wasn't the south tower evacuated after the North tower was hit on 9/11?

Even though there was only a matter of moments between the two attacks, why wasn't evacuating the south tower even considered?! There must have been plenty of confusion-but seriously...a 747 flying into a building on a beautiful day an accident?! Especially considering

the twin towers were bombed in 1993, both towers should have automatically been seen as a target of terrorism.

The North tower was hit at 8:46, the second at 9:03. Couldn't some employees that died have lived? What do you think?

I agree with you Victoria - any explosion or even a fire that close to a building should have had an evacuation program.

It was the worst thing I have ever seen on TV. I was watching TV in Australia, it was just after 11 pm when they showed us the plane hitting the north tower, then while watching I saw the other plane hit the south tower, couldn't believe it. My heart goes out to all those families who lost loved ones that day.

I totally agree with you, but i think that everyone was probably in shock, just watching what was going on in the north tower, just like the rest of the world was doing, and i know that at first, before the South tower was hit, i thought that was it, I didn't think that it would continue beyond the first crash, but it did.

It was a critical mistake. However, many people thought it was an accident, after all, how much did we hear about Terrorists prior to 9/11? Also, it was not immediately known in the South Tower that it was even a plane that hit the building. People couldn't possibly know. It was on TV, but word can't spread to everyone in 15 minutes. Most people just thought it was an explosion.

Anyway, security didn't want anyone to panic, and they didn't really think anything was going to happen either. They had guards at the bottom of the building telling the people who wanted to leave that it was okay and that it was just an accident in the North Tower. Big mistake. Unfortunately, humans have a tendency not to take anything seriously until a disaster has happened.
