  1. It also increases the profits from the payphone in the station.

  2. Because of HIGHLY explosive gases... since Mobile phones use "lights" when ringing, it might make combustion with it...

But, i think it's because of computers too...

  3. There have been several incidents where an explosion was caused by the sparks a phone creates and the flammable gas and fumes, same reason you are not supposed to close your car door because of the static electricity (but that is not as well publicized)

  4. The Mythbusters already proved that cellphones do not cause gas station fires. More likely it is people getting in and out of their vehicles and building up static charges which spark when they touch the gas pump nozzel when they are filling their vehicle which then starts the fire.

  5. Gas fumes are highly flammable. A spark from your cell could set off a big explosion! They also say not to get back into your car when you are pumping gas, same reason a spark from nylon seats could ignite the fumes.

  6. This is just a myth.........nothing will happen while using a cell phone at a gas station however it has been proven that if you drop your cell phone and the battery comes out, there is a chance that the battery striking the ground could ignite the gas vapors.....

  7. Good onya, Dean D! It was all a myth.. it's not possible.

Funny, I've never seen sparks from my cellphone, either...

  8. Because, with the vapors of the fuel and the sparks of the cell phone...well, things can go Boom Boom Boom.
