  1. Food can be contaminated by chemicals or bacteria in the laboratory - and ingesting such contaminated food could probably, in severe cases, kill you.

Also, less importantly, experiments have to be carefully controlled, and food could contaminate them.

  2. Come on dude, think it through.  What do you do with food?  Eat it.  It enters your body.  What is in labs?  It depends, but probably lost of bacteria and chemicals that you really do not want entering your body.  See the connection?

  3. Food can easily contaminate your experiments.

More importantly, the chemicals (and bacteria) in the lab can easily contaminate your food.

Labs should also maintain a clean environment, in general.  General discipline and professionalism is a secondary concern.

I don't know how people do it, the smell of labs is enough to discourage me from eating.

  4. Since everyone else has covered the obvious - experimental contamination and the potential of poisoning and/or infecting yourself - I'd like to answer this as a lab manager. The PAPERWORK! Who wants to be bogged down in disclosure and accident reports, random inspections, justifications, workman's comp, and the possibility of having your funding pulled, just to mention a few. What a nightmare! Meanwhile, your project falls by the wayside and experiments get ruined because you have to unnecessarily deal with the bureaucratic side of science.

    :)

  5. according to my opinion lab is a place where all types of chemicals are kept and other micro organisms are all so kept . if you bring food inside the lab by chance bacteria may feed up on it which may cause some illness in you so may be food is not permitted in labs

in other way teachers won't allow us to bring food in lab because we will be more interested in eating than doing over experiments

  6. The main reason why food is not allowed in a laboratory is due to contamination of the food.

Contamination control is one of the most vital aspects of health and safety in areas where environmental sterility is a critical concern. The purpose of the wide range of contamination control procedures and standards is to ensure cleanliness by reducing or eradicating all viable and non-viable contamination, and maintaining an efficient rate of production.

Also certain labs do not allow foods to be taken in as the specimens kept there might be spoilt. The smell of the chemicals makes it unfit to consume food. The lab should be kept neat and tidy.If food particles are spilt all over the place it may invite flies and germs.Ants make their way into the lab and it becomes difficult to carry an experiment.

    Best Wishes :)

  7. obviously, they will contaminate your experiments.

  8. Gee I don't know..... Ebola, Andromeda Strain, The Hulk, Spider Man, any number of possible pathogens biological and synthetic.
