  1. Not only CON but a number of other character strings are in fact reserved names that go back to the days of DOS and cannot be used to name folders or files. Other reserved names are:

        * PRN

        * AUX

        * NUL

        * LPT1

        * COM1

        * Potential drive letter - A: to Z:

        * A number of others

    Most of them are reserved device names...


  2. It is a reserved word dud...system has reserved that before you :)

  3. Because you are using Windows and that filename is reserved for representing hardware devices on that platform (for legacy reasons).

  4. There are certain "system key words" that are used internally by windows.  Files and folders can not contain these names.  "con" happens to be one of these.
