  1. We can, NASA used pure 02 in eary Apollo tests.

We give 100% O2 to people all the time in the OR.

    The other guy is wrong.

He is taling about Hyperoxia You will not happen if the pressure is keep low.

Hyperoxia is excess oxygen in body tissues or higher than normal partial pressure of oxygen. Hyperoxia is caused by breathing gas at pressures greater than normal atmospheric pressure

  2. "Oxygen may be what ultimately kills you, rusting your body from the inside in a process called oxidation and free-radical production.  Breathing pure oxygen creates an abundance of free radicals."

  3. Two reasons:

1)Your body also needs carbon dioxide. The amount of Carbon dioxide in our body determines the depth and frequency of our breath. if we have a high level of CO2 in our body, our brain triggers the body to take in deeper and more frequent breaths.

2)Oxygen toxicity or oxygen toxicity syndrome (also known as the "Paul Bert effect") is severe hyperoxia caused by breathing oxygen at elevated partial pressures. The high concentration of oxygen damages cells. The precise mechanism(s) of the damage are not known, but oxygen gas is a natural free radical with a propensity to react with metals to form superoxide which may attack double bonds in many organic systems, including the unsaturated fatty acid residues in cells. High concentrations of oxygen are known to increase the formation of cascades of such free-radicals in biological systems, at which in many then go on to directly harm DNA and other structures Normally, the body has many defense systems against such damage but at higher concentrations of free oxygen, these systems are eventually overwhelmed with time, and the rate of damage to cell membranes exceeds the capacity of systems which control or repair it. Cell damage and cell death then results.
