  1. We can, however grass cells contain something called cellulose, which we cant digest to get the energy we need. Cows and other mammals can eat grass because they have special bacteria living in their stomachs called symbiont bacteria. These symbionts can break the bond in cellulose for the animal its living in. That way cows can get energy from grass. We don't have any of these symbiont bacteria, so we can't digest the cellulose in grass.

    thanks

  2. we havent evolved to eat grass

neither do we have nice molars

nor do we have cellulose digesting enzymes hence we can eat grass but cant digest it

  3. BECAUSE U R NOT A DONKEY. BUT ASKING A QUESTION LIKE A DONKEY.U CAN TRY IT

  4. Grass is mainly the leaves which are having a lot of cellulose in it. To digest the cellulose, an enzyme called as cellulase is required which is not present in our stomach. It is there in the stomach of grazing animals. So even if you can eat grass you cannot digest it.

  5. As we are human beings we dont have cellulase enzme in our stomach so the grass which containcellulose cannot be digested in our stomach so human beings cannot eat grass

  6. Just because we dont have the enzyme cellulase in our stomach to digest them as grass contains cellulose in them.. and mainly we are not herbivorous animals

  7. cows and goats are eating grass..

and this animals are giving milk.

if you can eat the grass and can you give the milk ?!!!

  8. You can eat grass, but your stomach does not have the capacity to digest it fully, thus not getting the benefits.

  9. Who said you cannot eat grass? Yes you can......

  10. still i know u are not any animal to eat such a food

if u are than i think so u can eat no probs it will surely digest

  11. how intersting question, bec we havent bacteria in our stomach who produce cellulase enzyme  for digestion of grass cellulose. so tht we cant eat grass,if u think to eat then ple 1 st eat bacteria ok.haaaaaaaaaa.

  12. People can eat grass; it is non-toxic and edible.

    HOWEVER,

There are two main problems with a grass diet. The first is that human stomachs have difficulty digesting raw leaves and grass. Humans lack the CELLULASE enzymes required to digest the CELLULOSE present in grass. Animals such as cows, on the other hand, have a specialized stomach with four chambers to aid in the digestion of grass  (a process called rumination)and contain cellulase.

Aside from the digestion issues, a second problem with grass as a food source is the mastication. Grass contains a lot of silica, an abrasive which quickly wears down teeth. Grazing animals have teeth that are adapted to continually grow, replacing the worn tooth surfaces quickly.

Human teeth do not grow as that of other herbivore animals

  13. because i dont like the taste, i tried it as a kid...

i guess if u like it, u can

there are many people in ripley's believe it or not who do unusual stuff like eating steel or iron

u could make a record to by surviving on grass only and u can become a celebrity too

  15. Grass fully contains cellulose. BETA - AMYLASE is the enzyme which helps to digest cellulose. All herbivores like cow have this enzyme. Humans contain only alpha amylase enzyme and it can't break down cellulose due to its beta 1-4 linkage. This is the reason we cannot eat grass.

  16. Many animals can digest foods that we people can't use at all. If we ate the grass on our lawn, it wouldn't do us much good - we would slowly starve if that were all we had to eat. Grass and other plants have plenty of the chemicals that we need to live and grow, but our digestive tracts can't digest them and so we can't use those nutrients. But a cow will eat grass or hay and little else and do just fine. What's the difference between us and the cow? The answer is in those extra "stomachs" and what lives there.

The biggest part of the cow's stomach is called the "rumen" and it contains billions and billions of friendly germs. These germs are microorganisms that we can see only with a microscope. These germs - there are many different types in the rumen - are not harmful, in fact, they are badly needed by the cow so that it can use the nutrients in grass and other plants. The nutrients in grass are in the form of complicated big molecules that must be broken down into smaller pieces that can then be used by the cow's digestive tract and so used by the cow for growth of the body and to maintain life. The germs can do that job of breaking down those plant molecules, and that is why they are so important. So cows can live on grass and we can't - and it's all because of those extra "stomachs" and their friendly germs!

I know I went a lil off the question but it was my only way of explaining it properly.

  17. Believe it or not we used to be able to eat grass. Our appendix is specially designed to aid in the digestion of the stubborn cell walls found in plants. However, our appendix (since we started eating more meat) has evolved to become dysfuntional, so it no longer works. If it did, grass would be back on the menu.

    =) Good luck.

  18. It is hard to digest and tough to eat. If you have really have sharp teeth and hard tongue, you can try chewing it. Depending on your digestive system, you may digest it too.

  19. people can eat grass. but u can not eat it a greater extents because, human beings do not have cellulase to digest cellulose in the grass.

  21. mayb u shud try it n ul kno y.......

    LOL abhi...dat was funny....

  22. eat follow this grass in a blender with water add lemon and salt . pepper. drink the juice after filtering

  23. Humans are not HERBIVORE, but it is upto u if want to experiment with the same, and u think u r a Herbivore animal.
