Why we cant use black garbage bags for recycling?

as seen at my apartment's recycling garbage room, the management seriously stated the words.

  1. The reason is that it makes it clear (no pun intended) as to what is in the bags. Thereby ensuring that trash is not being collected as recyclable materials. It becomes costly if garbage has to be separated from the recyclables and disposed of in the proper way. This would diminish the whole program.


  2. The plastic bags can't be recycled.  They won't take the time to open up all the bags.

  3. A certain number of people are jerks, and if you have to pay for garbage disposal by the bag (by buying a sticker to put on it) they would simply begin throwing their garbage into the recycling bins.  This way the garbage collectors can see what's inside and guard against getting yech in with the plastics.

  4. Assuming that you live in the UK the main reason is that the black bags would have to all be emptied by hand and the black bags would need disposing of separately. Although an awful lot has to be hand sorted already to actually allow the black bags as the norm would dramatically increase the workload in the recycling yards and cost of the recycling would rise substantially

  5. Because they're not green enough.
