Why we here in the US don't follow the strategy of the Costa Rican Governement to save the environment?

the strategy is as follows:

private hedge funds buy land

land is designated a natural park

no development is ever build on a national park and other countries can participate on the program too

Maybe its because all of costa rica would fit into just one of our cities.  We are a nation not a spot on the map.

The main reason is because the US is a developed capitalist nation, and raw materials is a big factor in that. The US is not going to lose money in exchange for a better planet.
