Why we punish our mind's health thinking about a possible end of the world?

I know that along history there have been a lot of other dates that people were scare of... but since I was born; I heard about 2000... nothing happened (happily) and, now there are a lot of documentation and videos talking about a possible end of the world on the 21st December, 2012...

Why we want to think that there's an external hand to change everything we know?

  1. This is another "Mass Distraction Weapon"... ;-)

Media are in the hands of an oligarchy who wants that you are always scared (so that you'll be glad that someone protects you) and concentrate yourself on futile things.. just to avoid that you realize how they are doing what they want!

  2. because this is what the media makes us do.

if it wasn't for the media no one would be thinking about this.

perfect ex.u only see skinny model looking girls on tv.

since people see that everyone thinks it's wrong to be overweight they make people think they're too fat.

  3. Absurd!

You are right why punished our mind with things/ predictions like this.

Let's live our life day by day to the fullest.

Life is beautiful, let's enjoy it.

  4. The Mayan prophecies do not predict the end of the world in Dec. 2012, only the end of a long count cycle in their calender, it goes on to mention dates as far as October 4772.

  5. If there is anything you can say about the human race, is that we do not like the unknown.  We'd rather fill in the blanks with absolute gibberish than to leave the question unanswered.  Just as people have wondered for time immemorial how everything begins, many wander how things end.  Most people are concerned with how their individual lives end, but it can't be helped that the same thirst for knowledge (aka curiosity) extends beyond that.

When it comes to any kind of apocalyptic scenario, it usually stems from something religious.  Actually, to rephrase that, in order for people to consider it a possibility, it has to come from some kind of deity or supernatural source.  What I find interesting about the idea of an apocalypse is how some form of it is mentioned in nearly every cultural or religious texts.  Apparently, some time ago, people were really shaken up by something or someone, and whatever or whoever that was, the concept of the "end of the world" came into mind.

It just so happens that you are alive during a time where a lot of these cultures and religions texts have been interpreted to suggest some kind of apocalypse.  Certain interpretations of biblical prophecies suggested that something was going to happen at the turn of the millennium.  In the scope of the world's religions, that was one religion's hack at the end of days.  Now the whole idea behind the 2012 theory comes from the Mayan calendar.  12/21/12 marks the end of a cycle in the Mayan calendar.  Yeah, well so what, right?  Well it just so happens that when it came to keeping time, the Mayan's had it right.  They're "long calendar" is, out of all ancient cultures, perhaps the most accurate.  So for them to end it on such an obscure date, after going strong from 5,126 years, stirs up a bit of curiosity.

Like I said earlier, people are looking for answers.  And when you want to find them, they are there.  For example, also on that day, it also just happens to be the first time in 26,000 years that Sun will be aligned with the center of the Milky Way.  People can tie together some pretty crazy happenings to suggest "something is going on."  Something is going on alright...  it is man completely abhorring the idea of fumbling around in the dark.

  6. No one knows when it will end.  Only God knows.

People choose to believe it because others say it.

I know and have faith that Only God knows when the world will end.  I will not worry about what others say.  It makes me mad when someone chooses a date.  I know they really don't know, just like the other dates chosen.
