  1. At clay grounds in the UK its now mandatory to wear safety specs when shooting. Coloured lenses help too as you don't squint as much when trying to pick the clay up.

As others have said you only get 1 pair of eye's.

  2. There is a case on record (shooting times) of a pellet coming back from a partridge at 30 yds and blinding a chap in one eye. Glasses would have saved this. Shot as I recall was No 6.

  3. I have had bits of primers and casings come out back at me.  Usually due to case failure of bad surplus ammo.  The worst, however was when I had a Century Arms rebuilt FAL that had a sudden failure of the gas tube.  I had small pieces of the gas tube and burning powder hit me in the forehead.

Trust me, the glases are worth wearing, they can and may save your sight in case of an accident.

  4. Unburnt powder can come back into your ayes

Oil from an over lubed gun can come back into your eyes

Debris consisting of unburnt powder and oil can come back into your eyes

Not to mention the remote possibility of the gun blowing up and getting shrapnel in your eyes

  5. I have a friend, who was wearing them, have the brass eject from his pistol, hit his head, roll down behind the glasses and get lodged, burning the corner of his eye. Lot of good those safety glasses did hugh?

If he didnt have em on it would have just hit his head and fallen to the floor instead of sitting on the corner of his eye and burning him.

Im not saying that the glasses are pointless all together, just in that case they were not helpful.

  6. Depends...

If shooting a auto shotgun... you could have the ejector possibly eject one back at you.

You could have a failure in the weapon, and hot gasses could escape hitting you in the face.

    There are plenty of others...

  7. guns do on occasion, blow up .

Shells get double charges and firearms are discharged with obstructed bores from time to time

Lead shot, bullets and bullet fragments have been know to richocette too. I used to shoot a lot of skeet and have been peppered by passing clay from broken targets.

Some games use reactive targets... or steel plates. Shooting a CAS (cowboy action shooting) is a real good place to dodge lead splatter.

You get one set of eyes...'nuff said.

  8. Brass from semi auto's hitting you in the face and bullet richochets are common place.

EDIT: from a shotgun not much could but it's just one of those liability things.

  9. If you are shooing a shotgun pellets can bounce off things like trees and flying clays and come back and hit you, the eyes are about the only thing weak enough to be hurt by them.  Also flying hulls and powder residue.  And if your gun goes kaboom you will be glad you had them on.

  10. Just in case the bullet ricochets off of something and comes back at you!

  11. There is a possibility of lead or brass being blown back in your face. This has happened to me when I shoot lead solids from a revolver.

  12. backfire, flying brass, ricochet/ricochet induced debris, smoke.  mainly it's a liability thing with ranges

  13. just because of parts of malfuctining primers and bullet bounce..... i see the point in wearing them but at the same time dont, because most people dont wear them in the woods

  14. the bullet might turn around and hit you in the eye =D

  15. its called a back fire and there is other dabree that can easily take a eye out...pplus good safty glass make it easier on your eyes when shooting down range with sun glares

  16. the barrel could blow, and the plastic goggles could stop all that flying metal. lol

it's more to stop the smoke from blowing back and getting into your eyes. small fragments of dust and particles from the gun powder. or should a bird fly past at the momeny of firing, it would stop the blood and guts from splattering into your eyes. lol

  17. The gun could malfunction and shoot hot gases in your face. The glasses will stop a serious injury to the eyes, maybe even preventing permanent blindness. They aren't real cumbersome or anything so why not wear them?

  18. Here's a good reason...
