  1. G'day Petie,

    Thank you for your question.

    There have been several reasons:

    * strong sporting culture since early in our history;

    * good climate allowing athletes to train all the year round;

    * more recently, good funding for the Australian institute for sport;

    * good coaching.

    I have attached sources for your reference.

    Regards

  2. Rugby ???

  3. Because they have confidence.

  4. Petie must be a Pom????

    All the Poms need to do now is learn to bat, bowl & swim and they can call themselves a sporting superpower ;-))

  5. I like the way you say 'were' good at sports haha because it certainly seems to me as if they are struggling a bit now to keep up with the mighty south africans!

  6. The Aussies have a "Must Win" attitute to their sport.  None of this play to participate bull.  this is wher NZ gets it wrong.  Australia play to win and other teams play for the enjoyment.  Winning IS everything.  Second is nothing...nothing

  7. Australians and Queenslanders in particular are physically superior to regular human beings.

  8. They just live for sport whatever sport it may be.In every sport they always strive to be the best and in most sports they are they best.

  9. Institute of Sport would be the main reason.

    Resources for sports would be another - there are just so many quality sporting facilities, stadiums, grounds, and really great sports club cultures.

    I'm a Kiwi but have lived and worked across the ditch in Sydney and Melbourne - both cities by themselves make the whole of NZ look like a very poor retarded cousin.

  10. In my opinion, it's because of 3 reasons.

    1. We're one of the most multi-cultural countries in the world, people from all over the world come here and bring their traditions, cultures and sports with them, and we share in the fun.

    2. Our history was very physical, digging all day, working very hard as convicts (past)

    3. Determination.

  11. Australia was shamed as a sporting nation at the 76?? olympics when their sporting men and women failed to win any gold medals, the Australian Institue of Sport was formed and millions of dollars was pumped into the AIS to end the no medal drought, from their the AIS has pushed out world winning champs to compete with the best in the world. I also hasten to add talent, commitment and pride are also high on the agenda.
