Why were so many artists liberated in the Renaissance Era?

  1. I think perhaps " liberated " might resemble the artistic movement from church and religious art to more humanistic sensual art. People started to realize (again) that there really was nothing to be ashamed of when expressing humanism and that triggered a motion toward pushing the "whats acceptable" envelope. Though at the time the church was still very repressive and held almost absolute authority.
