Why were the Giants wearing their blue (away) jerseys even though they were playing in NY against the Redskins?

  1. By tradition and sometimes rule, a team's dark colored jerseys are their home jerseys.  White jerseys are for away games.

    In the NFL, the home team can change that by notifying the visiting team a certain number of days in advance.  

    If for some reason, the visiting team shows up with only their dark jerseys, the home team is required to change.
