Why were their more nurses in the North then in the south during the Civil war?

I Have a big presentation on civil war nurses due tuesday and any websites with good info on them would be nice :)

  1. I don't know but I suspect not. If you can't find data on it just say so. Example. Although it is unknown which side had the most nurses, there are many examples of hard work and dedication on both sides.


  2. Not sure its true.  What was the population of the States involved?  Also the South was more agricultural which has implications for nursing (which is a job from the industrial revolution and cities, I think?).  Finally, most of the Civil War (War Between the States) was fought on Northern Soil or darn close, not in the Heart of Dixie.
