Why when I look at something close my eyes start to hurt?

Its actually kind of between my nose that hurts.

How close?  If at a normal reading distance, you need to get a check up with the eye doctor, if right at the tip of your nose, you are straining your eye muscles trying to focus so close.  We are not meant to do that.....
