I don't understand when a black person is not being loud, crazy, talking slang, or all that other stuff that black people are known for...the rest of the black people call them "stuck up" ???

I was raised with class and I really present myself in a good manner, but some black people say that I'm "stuck up"...when i'm not at all!!!

  1. Many people resent others who are different than they are, especially spiteful, insecure, or lazy people.  These people are usually falling behind in society, and instead of trying to better their own situation, they'd rather try to pull down everyone else by making them feel ashamed or outcast for their differences.  And not that the things you mention are necessarily bad at all -- just not what you want out of your lifestyle.  Many successful people may do stereotypical things, but you won't see them raising a fit over what you do because they have better concerns.

Although I'm not black, I come from a very rural "redneck" culture, and have faced the same problem.  People think that you think you're "too good" for their way of life, when in reality, you just want something different than they do.

  2. You know what I have no idea. Same thing  has happened to me only where I come from they called me white, because I wasn't loud, obnoxious, or talked with that "ghetto twang" as they liked to call it.

I guess they just think that you HAVE to act that way to be considered actually black, like its some unwritten african american code.

  3. Sounds territorial.

I'm Southern African and that end of the world you get called stuck up for a lot of reasons - maybe you made money and forgot your roots or diss your family, maybe you act like you're superior to other people from other areas or countries, maybe you don't keep it real by smiling and greeting strangers (which is kind of normal practice) - stuff like that.

If you're loud - you are loud. If you use slang - you're expected to switch up in situations like the workplace, in front of older people etc. and if you're crazy you get thrown into a mad house.

Good manners, respect for your elders and hospitality to visitors is the main cultural norm or maybe I should say traditional behavior. Things have been changing with exposure to cable/internet and more travel but you definitely always get called stuck up by all ethnic groups white, black, asian, mixed whatever if you forget your tradition. Having class and good manners is sort of expected.

You sound pretty normal to me. We wouldn't consider you to be culturally stuck up.

  4. Other race people (and other black people) think that since you're black..you have to live up to ALL the black stereotypes...and if you different..you're automatically said to be "stuck up" "wanna be white"..and thrown into the g*y (lessor than a man) category if you're a black male with class that dress nice and not live the hip hop lifestyle

    I myself a teenage black male! :)

  5. they are jealous... nobody wants to be around loud, slang talking, rude people!!!!!

they are just jealous and mad because you know how to act and do not need to act the way they do!

  6. There you go stereotyping black people. Clearly you are stuck up. You think are better than them because you are "not being loud, crazy, talking slang or all that other stuff that black people are known for." Like you mention that's what black people are known for. That doesn't mean they are that way.

So what way do you think you act? White?

  7. i don't think they are stuck up at all. just the opposite, really. and of course, people who don't behave as well try not to act like THEY are the ones that are different, but YOU are. its a selfishness some people have.

everyone gets it at some point. every race.
